Robert L. "Red" Burt
Of Greenvalley, WV
Robert L. "Red" Burt, 85, of Greenvalley, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 13, 2014, from Logan Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness.
He was born August 20, 1928, at Athens, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence Zeke and Roxy McKibben Burt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma A. Chafin Burt; one daughter, Mary Margaret Burt McClellan Stallard; one son, Tommy Jiles Burt; and his sisters and brothers, Guy, Helen, Nettie, Bernice, and Glenn.
Red was an infantry soldier with the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. After he was honorably discharged from the service, he worked various jobs: a steel mill, the coal mines, and the school system, in Ohio and WV. Red was very involved and enjoyed campaigning in local politics.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Eliza J. Warren and her fiancé, Richard Cobb, of Mallory; one son, Bobby (Brenda) Burt of Davin; eight grandchildren, David Lee (Cindy) McClellan, Jimmy (Christine) McClellan, Jr., Sandy (Mark) Greene, Dora Michelle Lester, Tommy Jiles (Tracy) Williford, Jr., Bobbi Jean (Jamie) Paynter, Dr. Sarah Ann (Nick) Setran, and Jenine Stallard (Steven) Kafaro; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and his caregiver for many years, Charlotte Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Man Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Brian Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 & American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Man Church of the Nazarene and one hour prior to services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
