William Stephen Simpkins
of Davin, WV
William Stephen Simpkins, 60, of Davin, departed this life on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Hillcrest Health Care Center at Danville, after a long illness.
He was born June 9, 1956, at Man, a son of the late Cullen Leo and Virginia Bunch Simpkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harrison and Nancy Dillon Bunch, George and Ida Wise Simpkins Chafin, and George and Lydia Simpkins; two sisters, Nancy Simpkins Hart and Ida Simpkins Gent; and one brother, David Leo Simpkins.
Steve was a 1974 graduate of Man High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Returning to Logan County after his military discharge, Steve went into law enforcement. During his career he served the people of Logan County for more than 26 years in the Logan County Sheriff's Department, starting his career as a Deputy and attaining the rank of Lieutenant by the time of his retirement. Dedicated to law enforcement, Steve longed to return to serving the people and accepted a job as the Director of Safety and Security at Logan Regional Medical Center. He also worked as the Chief Ranger and Director of Safety and Security of the Hatfield and McCoy Trail System and ended his law enforcement career in 2010 as the Chief of Police at Man.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Virginia Nykole "Nykki" Simpkins at home; two sisters, Lynn (Jeff) Fields of Accoville and Pam (Johnny) Bare of Kistler; one uncle, Daniel Boone Simpkins of Accoville; a special great-great-niece, his "monkey butt", Morgan and Josie; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Donald Lafferty and Rev. Ralph Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby where military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be Jason Mills, Timothy Mills, Noah Ellis, Charlie Walls, Kenny Jude, and Rev. Ralph Perry.
