of Greenville, WV
Rachel (Hammonds) Allen, 70, of Greenville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, leaving from her home, surrounded by her children, family, and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rachel now makes her home in Heaven.
She was born on June 23, 1945, at Man, a daughter of the late Taylor and Effie Mae Ellis Hammonds.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Aubrey James Hammonds; three sisters, Mable Hall, Darlene "Dodgie" Clay, and Brenda Sue Walker; and a special nephew, John "Jed" Duncan.
Rachel was an in home care giver for 48 years. She worked as a cook at Man High School for three years. Rachel enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, knitting, crocheting, and crafting. Her passion was cake making where her artistic talents came out through her beautiful birthday, wedding, and special occasion cakes. She loved reading, roses and lilies, and watching humming birds. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Rachel dearly loved spending time with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Wayne (Alicia) Allen of Naples, NY, Barbara (Tennis) Cline of Fair Dale, Ricky (Trish) Allen of Taplin, Timmy (Shelia) Allen of Davin, and Kimberly (Ralph) Caudill at home; a special nephew who she loved as a son, Steven (Sandy) Hammonds of Greenville; a special niece who helped care for her, Drema Kay "Becky Jo" (Rev. Baxter) Toler of Greenville; her grandchildren, Eric (Brandi) Allen, LaVonna (Mike) Graham, Danielle (Chris) Cline, Ricky Allen, Jr. and his fiancé, Taylor Caudill, Kelli Allen and her fiancé, Jimmy Ball, Summer Allen, Angel Whitt and her friend, Hannah Ward, Jarrod Allen, Alyssa Allen, Little Rachel Allen, Little Ralph Caudill, Julia Allen, Cameron Caudill, Joey (Jennifer) Cline, Ada Clay, Kayla (Derek) Adkins, Tyler Hammonds, Dillon Hammonds, Leslie Grosnickle, Angie Clark, and Randall Clark; 12 great-grandchildren, Eric, Braxton, Austin, Logan, Brittanie, Bailee, Breonna, Makayla, Madison, Kyler, Hayden, Jaylee, and Aiden; her loving brothers, Tracy Hammonds of Biscoe, NC, and Donald (Diana) Davis and Charles Hammonds, both of Davin; her loving sisters, Sharlene Hammonds with whom she made her home, Betty Cook of Davin, Carol (Larry) Lawson of Lyburn, and Karen (Steve) Workman of Amherstdale; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice and her special nurses, Carolyn "Pring" and Keesha.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016, at the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church (Lower Church) at Greenville with Rev. Baxter Toler and Rev. Chet Clay officiating. Burial will follow at the Hammonds Family Cemetery at Hunt.
Visitation will be held from 6-11 p.m. Saturday at the church also.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
