Carl Edward Spears
of Crown, WV
Carl Edward "Eddie" "Jar Bug" Spears, 79, of Crown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 15, 2016, leaving from Trinity Healthcare at Logan, after a long illness.
He was born on February 14, 1937, at Lundale, a son of the late Howard Spears and Mable Brunty Spears Campbell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and David Spears; and one sister, Kathy "Kitty" Spears.
Jar Bug was a coal miner who retired from Amherst Coal Company with 24 years of service. He was a proud member of the UMWA local 5859. Eddie was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a former fire chief at the Town of Man Volunteer Fire Department. When he was able, he enjoyed fishing, collecting coins, and playing cards. Devoted to his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Lucy Roberts Spears; one son, Michael E. (Marcella Ann) Spears of Amherstdale; one daughter, Rhonda (Ken) Windom of Martinez, GA; three grandchildren, Michael J. (Meghan) Spears of Charleston, Twyla (Josh) Agee of Ashland, KY, and Christina (Joey) Vail of GA; five great-grandchildren, Patrick Spears, Erin Vail, Thomas Martin, Samie Blair, and Michael Blair; one brother, Clifford (Mary) Spears of Man; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Harry "Buddy" Hager officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
