Obituary of Doris Perry Mullins

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Perry Mullins Lundale, WV Doris Perry Mullins, 83, departed this life from her residence at Lundale, on Saturday, January 9, 2016, and arrived at her Heavenly home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 27, 1932, in Logan County, a daughter of the late Johnny and Ruby Spears Perry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Sam Mullins, who went to his Heavenly home in 2006; a grandson, Justin "Bucky" McCoy; a granddaughter, Amanda Owens Workman; a great-grandson, Tyler Harrison; three sisters, Garnet Carter, Louise Maynard, and Nora Kennedy Allen; two step-fathers, Estil Parker and Orla Rakes; and two step-brothers, Gene and Gilbert Parker. Doris was a loving wife, devoted mother, nurturing grandmother and a faithful friend. Her home was always open to anyone who had a need; and for many, the need was just to have a loving, compassionate, "listening" ear. She related to and helped everyone, whether they be young or old, rich or poor, saint or sinner, and so on. Through the years, her home has been "home" to hundreds, for whom she prepared countless meals. Everyone was welcomed and loved at her kitchen table. Doris was an avid reader and "traveled the world" through her books. This was a passion that she shared with many in her family, especially her sisters. She loved poetry, and has written hundreds of poems pertaining to her family and friends. She could hardly wait until Spring each year, when she could finally get out to her flower beds and "get her hands in the dirt." She loved to watch the birds that visited the feeders in her yard, and especially enjoyed her favorites, her beloved hummingbirds, that she could recognize and identify, year after year. Doris was very instrumental in helping to establish the Justin McCoy Memorial Park, after the passing of her grandson. For her prayers, guidance, and financial support, we are forever grateful. She will be cherished and remembered with great love and affection by her children, Sam (Connie) Mullins Jr. of Fall Branch, TN, Anita Owens and Gary (Connie) Mullins, both of Lundale, Debbie (Randall) Harvey of Oceana, Clea Ward of Greenville, TN, Althea "Missy" (Mark) McCoy of Amherstdale; and one whom she loved as her own, Hebert (Della) Trent of Amherstdale; her grandchildren, Kimberly Tomblin, Samantha Collier, Patti Owens, Kelly Johnson, Angie Plumley, Erica Toler, Catrina Weems, Benjamin McCoy, Larry David Owens Jr., Michelle Francis, Christopher Clay, Addi Lackner, Stephanie Messer, and Kerry Lesher; her 25 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; her loving sisters-in-law, Jean (Glen) Wood of Colville, WA and Betty Mullins of Lorado; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends, all of whom she loved very much. We would like to say a special "thank-you" to Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville for their love and compassionate care given to our mother, during her time of need. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Lundale Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. John Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Online condolences may be sent to www.krantzmcneelyfuneralhome.com Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
