Janis Andrea Murphy
of Amherstdale, WV
Janis Andrea Murphy, 79, of Amherstdale, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2015, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after a short illness.
She was born May 11, 1936, a daughter of the late James "Jack" and Virgie A. Amburgey Vernatter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judith Dale Vernatter; and one brother, Tommie Vernatter.
Janis was a disabled clerk who worked in the business office at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital for 36 years. A member of the Becco United Baptist Church, she was active in the Ladies Aide and Choir where she sang amazing alto. Devoted to her family, Janis was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a talented seamstress whose passion was quilting. Janis enjoyed sitting on the porch with her little dog, Duchess, and spending time with her grandchildren. A friendly person, Janis never met a stranger and was a strong witness for the Lord with everyone she met.
Those left to cherish her memory are one son, James S. (Angela) Murphy of Amherstdale; two sisters, Eva Jo Elkins of Huntington and Jackie Ann Jones of St. Albans; one brother, Teddy Vernatter of Reynoldsburg, OH; three grandchildren, Connor Chapman, Colton Chapman, and Hailey Vance; a special child who was precious to her, Braxton Blankenship; two special friends, Cynthia Goode and Mary Staten; and many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Pall bearers will be the Deacons and members of Becco United Baptist Church.
