Obituary of Norman Marshall Vance

Norman Marshall “Pete” “Wooda” Vance, 66, of Glade Hill, VA, died Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his home, after a long illness.
He was born August 24, 1958, at Logan General Hospital, a son of the late Rev. Norman Vance and Betty Dean Vance who at that time lived at Vance’s Hollow in Combs Addition.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Keith Vance; brother-in-law, Terry Ray Brumfield; Mother-in-law, Christine Brumfield, Father-in-law, James Brumfield.
Norman was a 1976 graduate of Man High School where he played the trombone in the Man High Marching Band and the MHS stage band. Norman was musically inclined and also played the drums, his favorite band to listen to was the Eagles. He was a Chevy man who loved to watch Dale Earnhardt Sr. Norman always made his presence known with his big booming voice. He was a disabled Coal Miner and Strip Miner for 30 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Norman was also the owner and operator of Wooda and Debbie’s ATV shop where the motto was “Come and See What the Woo Can Do For You”. He loved 4-wheeling in the mountains with his friends, family, and his wife Debra. He also enjoyed riding his boat at Smith Mountain Lake with his wife and family. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his sons and watch football games especially WVU and Dallas Cowboys. Norman was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. “The Woo”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Debra Kay Vance; two sons, Anthony “Tony” Marshall Vance of Lorado, WV and Joshua Michael Vance and his wife Hannah Vance of Princeton, WV; three granddaughters, Jersey, Brystol, and London whom he adored and were the light of his life; one brother, Paul and Glenna Vance of Elk Creek, WV; one sister, Shelia K. and Keith Osborne of Cyclone; his brother-in-law, Jimmy Dale and Charlene Brumfield; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Spears and Dreama Harris. He was also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom he adored along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Grimmett officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Pall Bearers will be Terry Ray Brumfield Jr., Chad Brumfield, Jayden Brumfield, Nicholas Osborne, Randy Osborne, Bobby Hicks, Blake Hicks, Moses Hicks, and Jason Dickerson.
Honorary Pall Bearers are Paul Vance, Jimmy Dale Brumfield, Dean Cook, Kenny Morgan, Jamie Hicks, Terry Vance, Donald Browning, and Keith Osborne.
