I am a former coworker of Mary's and wanted to pass along my condolences to her family. Her faith and her family meant the world to Mary and she never hesitated to talk about either of them. She was a woman of great faith and no one that knew her could walk away untouched by her love of God. She had a great sense of humor and a sharp sense of justice, along with a tinge of bawdiness. She was great fun to take breaks with and I will miss her quick smile and her clever comments.
I learned a lot about coal mining and West Virginia from her, but most of all, I learned that one can live the Gospel every day and still be a lot of fun! Rest in peace, dear Mary.

I have way too many dear memories to even try to fit onto this page. I just need to say she was the best friend I had and losing her is a tremendous blow. I love her dearly, like a sister and at one time, we were inseparable. I know in my heart she is with the angels now and someday when we meet up yonder, we'll stroll hand-in-hand again. . . (one of her favorite songs). I miss you Mary and this place will not be the same without you. Robin

I never knew Mary, personally. I have, however, heard about her at least once a week for the last 27 years from my mother, Robin Paynter. The very day before my mom received news of Mary's passing, she was talking to me about how Mary was as a youth - how she handled boys, bus drivers, and text books from third-story windows. They're stories I've heard countless times, but ones which I never interrupt or ignore. For myself and my siblings, stories of Mary and Margie have become straight-up tradition, and we revere them as we do the stories we hear about our old Grandpa and Grandma.
Our photo albums have several pictures of Mary and her twin sister, Margie. Mary was an anchor of my mother's memory for as long as all her children have known her, and more, and we have all loved the stories we've heard. My mother held Mary in the highest regard, and for having brought so much joy into Mom's life, so do we.
She's heartbroken, and she misses you. She loves you to pieces. Your departure has brought her to tears - no mean feat, considering how well Mom's weathered most traumas. But it's my mom who's most hopeful of all the people I know, because she knows we'll all see each other again someday, a notion which is lost on so many regrettable souls these days.
From what I know, Mary was an extraordinary individual, and even if it takes until after we've passed to encounter such people, I have a feeling it will have been well worth the wait. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, and I wish you all well. You've just witnessed the final chapter of an amazing story. Harvest the morals of it, and feed them to your young. They'll thank you later.

It's with broken hearts that we say goodbye to this beautiful woman. Our family will never be the same. Mary was one of the strongest, most loving people I have ever know. She wouldn't want all of this to be said, she would want me to tell you that she served a Mighty God. She would always tell me her greatest desire was to see all of her family in Heaven. Her faith was the strongest I've ever seen. She served the Lord with gladness, telling EVERYONE of his goodness and soon return. Now she stands before he King as we celebrate her life and our many memories of her.
