Obituary of Betty Lou Evans
Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heaven opened wide its gates Saturday to welcome home one of His children. Betty left this earth on November 2, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty gave her life to the Lord at the age of 16 years. She served the Lord faithfully for 75 years. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church at Accoville.
She was born on December 28, 1933, the daughter of the late Kelly Bailey and Goldie Toler Bailey. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Naamon Johnston; her second husband, James Evans; her daughter, Jeannie Grimmett and her husband Andy; her son-in-law, Ricky Adkins; her two sisters, Freda and Harold Cook and Mercedes and Bernard Corns; brothers, Dewey Bailey, Martin and Imogene Bailey, Leroy and Judy Bailey; sisters-in-law, Maylee and Harry Hager, Brenda Johnston Bragg and David Bragg; Richard and Sue Adkins; and brother-in-law, Mack and Linda "Perky" Johnson and Oscar Adkins.
Betty Lou was a wonderful wife and loving mother of seven children. She took great pride in her home and her children. Betty worked hard raising her children; she cooked at Man Applachian Regional Hospital and Man Junior High School, and as a sales clerk at Man Clothing and Jewelry. Devoted to her family, Betty did whatever she could to make sure that her children had everything they needed.
Those left to cherish her memory are five daughters, Phyllis "Cookie" and Johnny Pruitt, Sandy Adkins, Pam and Randy Hendricks, Cristy and Duane Estep, and Cindy and Gary Hatfield; her favorite son, Nickey and Penny Johnston; one sister, Vodis Cook; four sisters-in-law, Ida and Don Spears, Mary Adkins, Betty Jo Bailey, and Linda Spencer; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to her caregivers Joyce Grimmett and Sherry Vance for giving Mom such good, loving care.
