Obituary of James Turner, Jr.

James Turner, Jr., 65, of Amherstdale, departed this life on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends. James was born on November 24, 1958, in Alexandria, VA, a son of the late James and Virginia Elizabeth Shifflett Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin and Thelma Emily Daniels, and a caregiver, Sherry Hager. While sometimes James could be ornery, he loved spending time with his caregivers joking with them constantly. James was a proud alumnus of Matewan High School, where he played football and built lasting friendships. Beyond sports, his heart found its rhythm in music. He grew to love classic rock, drawing inspiration from his musical idol, Jimi Hendrix. He could always be found listening to music, strumming along on one of his guitars, or smoking his cigarettes. He loved to stay busy and could clean the house better than anyone. James will be remembered not only for his talents but also for his warm heart and fierce spirit. He was a man of passion and creativity who lived life to the fullest and cherished the simple moments with those he loved. Those left to cherish his memory include Brenda Sue (Thomas) Whitt of Delbarton and Jeanette (Albert) Deane of Standardville, VA; roommates Jordan Messer and David Gore, with whom he shared a brotherly bond, both of Amherstdale; and the rest of his ResCare family, friends, and caretakers. James was a one-of-a-kind man who will never be forgotten by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 18th, 2024, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man, with Rev. Joe Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18th, 2024, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Rev. Joe Browning, Kayne Brown, Tim Wiley, Nick Christian, Jordan Messer, and Adam Bunch.
