Obituary of Joanne Hensley

Joanne Hensley, 90, of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at TerraBella Cramer Mountain. She was born on November 17, 1933, in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Josephine Spence Madison and Arnold Chatfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Hensley, and her stepfather, Charles Madison. Joanne was a proud graduate of Logan County Schools and Marshall University, where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. She earned her Master’s Degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. Joanne served as a dedicated librarian at Man High School and later worked at Hensley Furniture before her retirement. She was also a devoted member of Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Charles Hensley, and his wife Barbara of Belmont, NC; her grandson, Aaron Thomas, and his wife Mallory of Gastonia, NC; her great-grandson, Palmer Thomas; her nephew, Edward Hensley, and his wife Vickie of Charleston, WV; Kim Hensley of AL; her cousins, Beth Spence and David Spence; and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Joanne's life on Friday, October 4th, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church, 102 East Main Ave, Man, WV 25635.
