Obituary of Brenda Joyce Baksh

Brenda J. Thompson Baksh, 81, of Kistler, died Thursday, August 22, 2024. Brenda was born on August 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl Morgan Thompson of Accoville. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Noor Baksh. Brenda earned her Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University. Following her graduation, she began a career of service in public education, working in several states before coming home to work as director of HeadStart for PRIDE, Inc. in Logan. In the 1980s, Brenda began working as an English Professor for Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC), where she worked for decades, helping people fulfill their goals for higher education. Brenda spent the rest of her career at SWVCTC. Those left to honor her memory are her children: daughter Ellen Thompson and her husband Brent Williams of Huntington; son Rick Thompson and his wife Mandy of Kistler; her grandsons: Charles “CJ” Williams of Huntington and Evan Thompson of Kistler; special neighbor and friend, Marie Grimmett, who has been a great help to Brenda and her family. She is also survived by numerous cousins, friends, former colleagues and students. To honor Brenda’s wishes, there will be no formal services. However, the family will host a gathering to honor and celebrate Brenda’s life at Shelter 1, Chief Logan State Park, on Saturday, September 14 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
