Obituary of Velma Virginia Jackson
Please share a memory of Velma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Velma Virginia (Gordon) Jackson, 88, of Kistler, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was born June 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Lewis Gordon and Eloise Brackens in Ethel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson, Grandmother, Mary Hester Jones, sister Juanita Brackens, brother Grant Robinson, grandsons Dewayne (DJ) Jackson and Joshua Jackson, sister/brother-on-laws, Ora (James) Hagood, Victoria (Tony) Davis, Lorlena (Alfred) White, Holbert (Daisy) Jackson, Sons, Eugene Gordon, William (Pat yet living) Jackson, Richard (Mary, still living) Jackson; daughters Sherri Jackson, Phyliss (aka Judy) Crump and Constance (aka Connie) Long.
She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, great-grandmother, great-grandmother, Sister, Daughter, and Aunt. She loved spending time with her family. She found solace in her hobbies of bowling, gardening, traveling, cooking, and building, yet her true joy was found in playing the piano in quiet worship to Jesus. She retired from the state of West Virginia after 30 years of service as a social worker. Then, she worked for Logan County Public Schools as a substitute teacher until the COVID pandemic. As a faithful servant of the Lord, she was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church (now New Beginnings United Missionary Baptist Church). Where she served as the church secretary and treasurer, Velma taught and led the youth bible bowl team to victory. She was also on the decorating and kitchen committee.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Joyce (Curtis) Jackson, Beatrice Miller, Dennis (Dana) Gordon, Teresa (Edward) Hairston, William (Terri) Gordon, Wayne (Dana) Jackson, Glen Jackson, Shawn Jackson, and Dionne (Terren) Bartley, Gloria (Williard) Jenkins Ronald Jackson, Joan Starghill, and Vivian Garrett (aka Linda); sister-in-law Carol Robinson. She leaves behind a legacy of love with 40 Grandchildren, 82 Great-grandchildren, and 17 Great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A resilient hero to all, she dedicated her life to serving others. Her selfless nature knew no bounds, she generously supported those in need and guided countless individuals on their life’s path. May her spirit of compassion and unwavering faith continue to inspire us all.
