Ricky Lee McCoy, 65, of Madison Creek, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2024, leaving CAMC-Memorial Hospice Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 25, 1958, at Man, the son of the late Clyde and Martha Elizabeth (Gillispie) McCoy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dewey McCoy, Alvin McCoy, Richard McCoy, and Danny Ray McCoy; two sisters, Virginia Sue McNeely and Carol Rose Burton; two sisters-in-law, Diana McCoy, and Jeannie McCoy; and two brothers-in-law, William Jennings Spears and William Earnest Shawver. Ricky was a 1976 graduate of Man High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for six years before joining the U.S. Air Force where he served for two more years. He returned to Madison Creek in 1988 and began his career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital. Throughout the years, Ricky worked at many area medical facilities. Ricky attended the Church of God in the Name of Christ Jesus at Trace Fork when he was able. One of Ricky’s favorite sayings was “Stand for the Flag and Kneel for the Cross.” He enjoyed cooking, taking care of other people, and spending time with the babies in the family. Those left to cherish his memory are two brothers, David McCoy, and Paul (Linda) McCoy, both of Holden; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Workman of Madison Creek and Alice Marie Shawver of Whitman; one sister-in-law, Brenda McCoy of Madison Creek; his best friends, Dr. Lyvia Cabauatan and Debbie Barber; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
