Obituary of Demma Rufus Workman

Please share a memory of Demma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Demma Rufus “Rook” Workman, 71, of Leon, WV, went to the hands of a just God on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, leaving from Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Oh.. He was born on December, 21st, 1951, at Man, WV, the son of the late Henry “Cum” Workman and the late Gladys (Bartram) Workman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Dora Mae (Grimmett) Workman; several brothers and sisters, French Grimmett, William Grimmett, Walter Grimmett, Norman Workman, Henry “Oral” Workman, Diane (Workman) Kilgore, Betty (Workman) Mullins, Loraine (Workman) Bartram, Roger Workman. Rufus was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to many. He was held as a favorite uncle and great uncle by many. Rufus loved deer hunting, ginseng hunting, collecting antiques, working on his property, especially cutting his large and well groomed lawn. Children always naturally gravitated to him as he loved to play with them and aggravate them in his own light hearted style. He loved life, and was always ready with a corky “Rook” joke to make you smile. A man of great humility who always carried himself in a friendly, compassionate, and generous manner. While he was meek by nature, he leaves behind the void of a giant. Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Natalie (Dale) Browning of Greenville, WV, one son, Demmie (Leighann) Workman of Man, WV; nine brothers and sisters, Germae Justice, Cora Ballard, Kenny Workman, Thelma “Bug” Trent, Harold Workman, Jerry Workman, John Workman, Melva Maynard, Robert Workman; six grandchildren, Steven Mitchell, Kirstin Mitchell, Skyler Belcher, Haven Workman, Trey Workman, Devin Lewis; four great grandchildren, Emilia Riley, Paisley Blair, Adalyn White, Angelia Workman; his life companion, Patricia Bryant Gibson and her family, especially her grand children that referred to him as Papaw Rook. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael R. Vannatter officiating.
