Obituary of Jackie Lee Reeves
Please share a memory of Jackie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jackie Lee (Jack) Reeves, 71, of Mallory, WV passed away quietly from an extended illness at King’s Daughter’s Medical Center in Ashland, KY on Sunday, May 22, 2022.
He was born in Clean Eagle Coal Camp in Mallory, WV to William Paul Reeves and Pearl Smoot Reeves on May 18, 1951.
Jack suffered through many ailments early in his life. The doctors never expected him to live past 6 months. When asked, Jack, was quick to point out just how wrong those doctors were. Jack was a kind, loving soul who never met a stranger. He was someone of strong faith and convictions from an early age. While most kids were playing sports or other games Jack was standing on a tree stump preaching the gospel to his imaginary congregation. He loved his church and church family and was a member of Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church for nearly 50 years.
He also had great affection for his many friends from the church of his childhood, Mallory Church of God. Even though he suffered all his life with crippling and painful disabilities and was unable to do the simple things that most of us take for granted, he stayed positive and always had a smile and a joke to tell. He could be heard many times throughout the day praying aloud, usually praying for other people, and rejoiced at the news of someone accepting Christ into their life. In addition to his church, he enjoyed spending his days listening to gospel music and watching his favorite preachers on tv.
He also loved to watch reruns of his favorite shows and movies he remembered as a child, and he loved to reminisce and tell stories about growing up with his Clean Eagle friends and family. Jack liked to read and write letters to his loved ones. Also, he liked to draw and when weather permitted, he loved to sit on the porch for hours singing gospel songs for all the neighbors. We will miss hearing him sing in bed as he drifted off to sleep. We are all so blessed to have been a part of his life for so long. Our lives will never be the same.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William Paul Reeves, and Pearl Smoot Reeves. Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Larry Williams Reeves, and Paul Allen (Peggy) Reeves, with whom he made his home, and his dog Max, all from Mallory, WV, and his nephew Michael David Reeves of Las Vegas, NV, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
