Billy Joe “Bill” Laws
Of Amherstdale, WV
Billy Joe “Bill” Laws, 83, of Amherstdale, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after extended illness.
He was born on September 14, 1938, at Amherstdale, the son of the late Emmanuel Leonard Laws and Anna Coleman Laws Bailey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Denver and Virgie (Burks) Franklin; one daughter, Melanie Lusk; three grandchildren, Jacob Lusk, Ira Lusk, Jr., and Brooke Ann Lusk; and one brother, Bobby Joe Laws, Sr.
Over the years, Bill has enjoyed camping and fishing. While his children were growing up, he would take his children along with some of the neighborhood children on weekend fishing trips. His work and hobby was working with his hands. Bill did construction work and screen printing of signs, shirts, hats, and hand towels for the Man High Hillbillies. He was one of the best auto body mechanics that you could find. When he could no longer work in auto mechanics, he made some of the most beautiful ceramics you could imagine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Ann (Franklin) Laws; three sons, Billy Joe Laws and his fiancé Barb of Valley View, Bobby Joe Laws and his fiancé Kelly of Amherstdale, and John Fitzgerald Laws of Elliston, VA; seven grandchildren, Erica Laws and her fiancé Edward Price of Madison, Billie Jo Laws of Amherstdale, John Laws II, James Laws, and Taylor Laws, all of Elliston, VA, Brittney Sands and her husband, Nick of Columbus, OH, and Bobby Joe Laws, Jr. of Columbus, OH; four step-grandchildren, Hannah Hernandez and her fiancé Spencer Hill of Columbus, OH, Matthew Vess of Pickerington, OH, Kelly Garner of Beckley, and Samuel Garner of Lewisburg; five great-grandchildren, Diamond Nevaeh Laws, Brantley and Ezra Sands, and Lincoln and Colby Hill; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2021, at the Man Church of God with Rev. Herbie Pruitt and Rev. Bobby Maxwell officiating.
A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to services at the church also.
