Obituary of Vera Maxine Deer

Vera Maxine Deer of Cyclone, WV Vera Maxine Brickles Deer, 74, left this life behind on November 17, 2021, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. She was born on May 5, 1947, at Man, the daughter of the late Carlos and Gladys (Workman) Brickles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Deer; grandparents, Arnold and Perline Workman, Hile and Barbara Brickles, and her brother, Jimmy Lee Brickles. Maxine was a 1965 graduate of Oceana High School and the Beckley Beauty Academy for Hair and Cosmetology. She also attended Southern West Virginia Community College for a brief time. Maxine worked in the Bias Beauty Salon for several years before opening her own shop. She was an active resident of the Town of Man before deciding to be a stay-at-home mother, wife, and church worker. Maxine knew everyone; she didn’t meet anyone she couldn’t talk to. She made many life-long friends while serving her customers. She was a devout Christian, and she was a member of the Campus Church of God. Maxine served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, sang in the choir, and worked in any position that needed to be filled. Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Frederick Carl Deer and his wife Tammy and Guy Richard Deer and his wife Travanna; eight grandchildren, Darian Spry Izeta and her husband Chris, Destinee Spry, Cierra Spry and her partner Johnathan Diamond, Jacob, Jayden, Jonathan “J.D.”, Jaycee, and Jessalynn Deer; eight great-grandchildren; Rylan Izeta, Tylee Workman, Kane Workman, Dawsyn Poe, Easton Diamond, Jaylin Diamond, Kooper Diamond, and Parker Diamond; her sister, Elaine Grimmett and her husband Mason; and several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man. The family requests masks be worn during all inside services. Please bring your masks. Burial will follow in Isaac-Sloan Cemetery at West Hamlin.
