Charles Leonard Elkins
of Cooks Addition, WV
Charles Leonard Elkins, 77, of Cooks Addition - Davin, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 6, 2021, leaving from his earthly home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
He was born October 29, 1943, at Cyclone, the son of the late Charles Pierce and Helen Elizabeth (Cook) Elkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Goode; and one brother, Frosty Sams.
Leonard served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He and the love of his life, his wife, Nellie Jo, were stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA where their first child was born. After his honorable discharge, they returned to Logan County and he began his career in the coal mines. He retired from the coal mines after 35 years of mining. Leonard enjoyed woodworking making many Intarsia projects. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Leonard was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Nellie Jo (McGuire) Elkins; three children, Charles Lee Elkins and his wife Kim of TN, Leonard Keith Elkins of Franklinton, NC, and Sabrina Jo Tyson and her husband Joey of Beaufort, NC; six grandchildren, Heather Lynn Lee and her husband Wesley, Jessica Lea Elkins, and Faith Tharp Elkins, all of TN, and Amber Kelly Elkins, Reese Nellie Elkins, and Allen Michael Paugh, all of NC; one great-granddaughter, Avery Rose Lee of TN; three sisters, Jeannie Casamento of VA, Vicki Elkins and Linda Peake, both of WV; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man. The family has asked that masks be worn while attending the visitation.
In honor of Leonard’s wishes his remains will be cremated after the visitation.
