Ola Katherine Kirk
of Woodbridge, VA
Ola Katherine Kirk, 91, of Woodbridge, VA, formerly of Man, WV, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Katherine was born in Martinsburg, WV, to Irving and Lucille (Thompson) Dawson on December 6, 1929. She went to Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV and graduated in 1947. Katherine continued her education to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Clarksburg, WV. She started and ended her long nursing career working at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital (formerly the Miner’s Hospital). Originally, she signed a contract for a six month stay. However, she met her future husband and stayed for 45 years. She enjoyed volunteering at the food bank once held at the First Baptist Church of Man where she was a long-standing member. After retirement, she volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Janell Kirk and daughter-in-law, Carol Klosterman with whom she made her home in Woodbridge, VA. Three granddaughters: Sarah Trent and her husband Patrick of Man, WV, Katie Hager and her husband Tyler and Kelsey Varney and her husband Gabriel, all of Williamson, WV.
In addition to her parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. “Jinks” Kirk, Jr., her son, Wallace Kirk, and her daughter-in-law, Ladonna Merritt Kirk.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man, WV with Rev. Scotty Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home also.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Vitas Hospice in Fairfax, VA, especially “Nurse Jackie” and Vison Homecare in Woodbridge, VA. As well as Katherine’s main nurse-aide, Doris, who helped make all our lives a little simpler.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
