Obituary of David Lee Cantrell

David Lee Cantrell of Lundale, WV David Lee Cantrell, 67, of Lundale, left for his Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, leaving from his earthly home after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1953, at Logan, the son of the Annabelle (Jeffrey) Cantrell of Accoville and the late Danny Cantrell. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Rick Cantrell; and one sister, Teresa Pennington Crum. David was a 1971 graduate of Man High School. After graduation, he went to work in the coal mines until he was laid off. He then was hired by Vecillio and Grogan to do road construction. David helped build the road on Buffalo Creek after the Buffalo Creek Disaster and also helped build Corridor G from Logan to Charleston. After the road construction was finished, David was employed in the coal mines until he became disabled in a mining accident in 1989. He loved going to church at Curtis Baptist Church where he was a member and played guitar. David was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a wonderful son, a loving husband, and a caring father and grandfather. David will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Those left to cherish his memory, in addition to his mother, are the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Robin Gale (Morris) Cantrell; two sons, Mark Anthony (Kristy) Cantrell of Charleston and Sgt. Justin David Lee Cantrell of VA; two granddaughters, Rebekah Faith Cantrell of Whitman and Piper Quinn Cantrell of Amherstdale; three siblings, Phillip and Thersia Cantrell of Kistler, Kathy and David Yoakum of Accoville, and Mark Edward and Christina Cantrell of KY; his father-in-law, James “Red” Morris of Robinette; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. Danny Thomas and Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church also. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
