Donald Ray “Foots” Mills
Of Landville, WV
Donald Ray “Foots” Mills, 89, of Landville, went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2020, at Baisden, after an extended illness.
He was born on September 5, 1931, at Mallory, the son of the late James H. “Jim” and Augusta Davis Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Mills; three sisters, Beulah Mills and her husband Wilbur Ray Mills, Edith “Bug” Evans and her husband Claude Glen Evans, and Carol Browning; a nephew, Jackie Evans; and a niece, Cheryl Mills Pack.
Donald worked for 43 years in the mining industry. Twenty-one years as an underground electrician at Island Creek Coal Company and twenty-two years as a Federal Mine Inspector for MSHA.
After retirement, he spent his time buying, rebuilding, and restoring old trucks and cars, playing music, and visiting friends. Donald never met a stranger, and loved to talk and testify to anyone he met about the Lord.
Donald was a self-taught musician and played the piano and guitar. He was a faithful member of the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, and Choir leader throughout his 55 years of membership. He later played the piano for the choir at Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church. He also played the piano and guitar when he visited the Full Gospel Church of God at Hanover.
Those left to cherish his memory are one son, Jeffrey (Laura) Mills; grandson, Jeremy (Melinda) Mills, and great-grandson, Eli Mills who great-grandpa Donald nicknamed “I lie”, all of New Market, AL; nephews, Jimmy Joe Mills and Johnny Evans; nieces, Glenna Preston, Pam Vest, Jean Ann Mills, Debbie Marsh, and Teresa Tokie; his sister-in-law, Bernice Mills of Landville; his caregiver and special friend, Aretta Davis of Baisden; along with a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, church family and friends.
