Leona King
of Kistler, WV
Leona King, 91, of Kistler, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2015, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after a short illness.
She was born on October 17, 1923, at Phyllis, KY, a daughter of the late Birdie Murphy Taylor Selvage and Willie Taylor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. King; son, Gary Michael King; son-in-law, Charles Ray Crum; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Jarrell; and her brothers and sisters, Monroe, Joe, and Jonah Taylor, Robert, Mae, Jimmy, Sonny, Dan, and Raymond Selvage, and Helen Looney.
Mrs. King was a home maker and was a Christian for 63 years. She was the oldest living member of Lundale Freewill Baptist Church. Well known for her cooking, especially chicken and dumplings, and baking, where she excelled with her prune cake, she assisted the Ladies Aide in all of the church social events. A talented singer, Mrs. King sang with the Varney Quartet in KY and later with her husband, John, at Lundale Freewill Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Lundale Freewill Baptist Church Choir. She was an inspiration to her family and her church family as a faithful church member, prayer warrior, and all around great Christian soldier.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Nioka (George) Vance of Kistler and Jennifer (Rev. Bobby) Adkins of Lorado; two grand-daughters, Angela King of Henlawson and Kim Jarrell of Man; one grandson, Ryan (Destiny Miller) Crum of Peach Creek; step-grandchildren, David (Tracie) Vance, Carlos Vance, and Jeff (April) Vance, all of Harts, Bobby Dale Adkins of Eccles, and Chris Adkins of Lorado; her great-grandchildren, Adelynn Crum of Peach Creek and Joshua Ross of Man; step-great-grandchildren, Jeffery Vance, Makayla Vance, and Paislee Vance, all of Harts, Brandon Adkins of Davin, and Christopher Adkins of Lorado; and her church family along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Bobby Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.
