John Marvin Solomon
Of Amherstdale, WV
John Marvin Solomon, 98, of Amherstdale, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2020, leaving from his earthly home, after a short illness.
He was born on February 5, 1922, at Pulaski, VA, a son of the late John Harry and Ethel (Sisk) Solomon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel H. (McKee) Solomon; his daughter-in-law, Theresa (Wooten) Solomon; three brothers, Everett, James, and Doug Solomon; and three sisters, Ann Harless, Barda Solomon Lusk, and Irene Taft.
Marvin was a coal miner for 44 years who retired from Island Creek Coal Company. He was a proud member of the UMWA District 17. Marvin was an Army veteran of WWII. He attended Becco United Baptist Church for many years. Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, Atlanta Braves baseball, college football, and watching old westerns.
Those left to cherish his memory are one son, Tommy Solomon of Amherstdale; two special friends who were like his sons, Johnnie Bragg of Accoville and Robert Bragg of White Sulphur Springs; one granddaughter, Cindy (Terry) Bias of Mocksville, NC; one grandson, T.J. Solomon of Blaine, TN; nine great-grandchildren, Kristin Ellis, Briann Moreland, Nick Bias, Savannah Bias, Chasity Bias, Jacob Bias, Katelyn Solomon, John Edward Solomon, and Riley Jo Solomon; four great-great-grandchildren, Owen Harvey, Layla Ellis, Chandler Ellis, and Madison Jarvis; and a great-great-nephew, Cody Solomon.
Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2020, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Rev. Les Williamson officiating.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
