Mercedes Corns

Mercedes Corns of Davin, has fallen asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the home of her son, Lenny and Cathy Corns, at Winfield, after a wonderful life of 93 years.

She was born on May 4, 1926, at Pond Fork, the daughter of the late Kelly and Goldie Mona Toler Bailey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bernard Corns; son, Gregory Ray Corns; one sister, Freda Cook; and two brothers, Martin Bailey and Dewey Bailey.

Mercedes was a home maker and a wonderful mother.  She always said, “I have seven children and I would have had seven more.”  Mercedes and Bernard always welcomed the friends of their children and the Corns home was the community house where everyone gathered.  She was a member of Claypool United Methodist Church

Those left to cherish her memory are six children, Jennifer Starr (Orval) Davis of Davin, William David (Glenna) Corns of Stony Point, NC, C. Leonard “Lenny” (Catherine) Corns of Winfield, Gary (Wendy) Corns of Logan, Angel (David) Bodnar of Sissonville, and Timothy (Jacqueline) Corns of Davin; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; three siblings, Betty Evans, Lee Roy Bailey, and Vodis Cook; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Curtis and Naomi Harless; one brother-in-law, William Cobb; and three caregivers, Pam Hendricks, Bernie Osborne, and Danielle Nunley; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will forever be grateful to Lenny and Cathy Corns for the loving care that they gave to our mother.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin.

A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2019, at the Claypool United Methodist Church with Rev. Johnny Hatfield and Rev. Tim Shuff officiating.  Burial will follow in Claypool Cemetery at Davin.

Pall bearers will be her 11 grandsons.
