Of Greenville, WV

   Dow Simpson, 94, of Greenville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, leaving from his earthly home, after a long illness.

   He was born on July 6, 1925, at Gilbert, the son of the late Columbus and Mary Toler Simpson.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Blankenship Simpson; one great-grandson, Brody Thompson; four brothers, John Simpson, Doyle Simpson, Elsworth “Simp” Simpson, and Sid Simpson; and two sisters, Helen Aldridge and Catherine Sammons.

   Dow was a faithful member of the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church where he was a pillar of the church for 41 years and served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He loved his church and greeted everyone who came to church as they entered and again as they were leaving.  Dow was a coal miner for nearly 42 years who worked for Powellton Coal Company and retired from Island Creek Coal Company.  He was also a member of the UMW of A District 17.  Devoted to his family, Dow was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend.

   Those left to cherish his memory are four sons, Kenny (Barb) Simpson of Combs Addition, Eddie (Phyllis) Simpson of Lexington, NC, Mike (Nancy) Simpson of Mooresville, NC, and Jerry (Tammy) Simpson of Greenville with whom he made his home; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, James Grimmett of Bolt and Orville Simpson of Pineville; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.

   Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church at Greenville and one hour prior to services at the church also.

   A celebration of Dow’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church at Greenville with Rev. Baxter Toler, Rev. Phillip Grimmett, and Don Powers officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

   Grandsons will serve as pall bearers.

   Honorary pall bearers will be Jeff Simpson, Timmy Simpson, Nicholas Tomblin, Buddy Blankenship, Frank Thompson, and Bunk Thompson.

   The family would like to send a special thank you to Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville and all the staff for all their care and kindness they showed throughout his illness. Would also like to thank Mark and Arabella Hatfield and their staff for the love and care they showed as well. And thank you to anyone else that showed their love and support throughout this time.
