David Raymond Toler

Of Greenwood, WV

David Raymond Toler, 69, of Greenwood, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2019, leaving from Hubbard Hospice House at Charleston, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born February 27, 1950, at Logan, the son of the late Pierce and Angeline Brown Toler.

David was a 1969 graduate of Oceana High School where he received the Quill and Scroll Award.  He was a coal miner for over 20 years who retired from Eastern Coal Association’s Long Branch Energy.  He was a member of the UMWA District 17.  After retirement he worked for two years at Appalachian Security.  He also taught Hunter Safety Education for the DNR in Logan County and Boone County until he became ill.   An outdoorsman, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and 4-wheeling in the WV Mountains.  He was a member of the Bald Knob United Methodist Church.  David loved to teach his grandchildren mountain craft, survival skills, and gun safety.  His teaching legacy continues as his grandson Dominic is a councilor at the Boy Scout Camp in NC and teaches survival skills.

Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his wife of 26 years, Shirley Jean Toney Toler; his children, Sabrina Maestas and her husband, Phillip, and Donnie Maynard Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, all of NC; three grandchildren, Dominic, Alex, and Lily Maestas all of NC; his children from a previous marriage, Michael Toler and his wife, Tammy, and Marty Toler and his wife, Nicole, all of Cyclone, and Amy Toler of Kopperston; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Betty Sue Roach and Rev. Billy Gibson Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home also.

Pall bearers will be family and friends.
