Obituary of Freda Mae Caldwell
Please share a memory of Freda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Freda Caldwell, 80, of Combs Addition went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born April 27, 1936, at Earling, the daughter of the late George and Betty Joe Ferrell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eustus "Gabby" Caldwell; two brothers, Leonard "Tick" Williams and James Earl Ferrell; and one sister, Margie Ferrell.
Freda was a home maker and a loving wife, mother, and mamaw. She was a Christian who attended Bruno Church of God. Freda enjoyed shopping and working in the flowers in her yard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: two sons, Dennis Ray (Mary) Caldwell of Huntington and Tyrone (Beth) Caldwell of West Palm Beach, FL; four daughters, Donna Caldwell and Sue Huff of Seattle, WA, Brenda (Gerald) Carter and Betty Jane (Harold "June Bug") Willard, both of Bruno, and Janet (Doug) Morgan of Lorado; one brother, Cletis "Butch" Ferrell of Mallory; and one sister, Naomi Hunt of Mallory. Freda was also blessed to leave 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-child with two more on the way in June and September.
Freda loved the big family with which she and Gabby were blessed. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she started buying in July so that everyone would get plenty from her and Gabby. She would make the biggest Christmas dinners complete with homemade pies and served about 40 to 45 most times. She and Gabby both loved to have their table full with all of the family around it. The song by Michael Combs comes to mind, "Mama Get the Table Ready Our Children Are Coming Home". Freda has passed that tradition on to her children whose tables are always full and welcome to anyone.
The family wants to thank some of their Mom's favorite people, Rev. Roger and Martha Frye and Jo Ann Lafferty who she dearly loved; Kim, the wife of her grandson, Jamey White, whose devotion and long hours spent caring for Freda was so special to us; Dignity Hospice whose staff was great with her; and friends that came to visit regularly. We also want to thank everyone who has been so thoughtful with their actions and words.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the Bruno Church of God at Bruno with Rev. Roger Frye and Rev. Stephen Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pall bearers will be her great-grandsons.
