Obituary of Ronald Patrick Gibson

Ronald Patrick Gibson South Man, WV Ronald Patrick Gibson, 75, of South Man, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, March 26, 2017. He was born January 14, 1942, at Accoville, the son of the late Everett and Freda Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; brothers, Ralph, Ricky, and Freddie Gibson. Ronnie attended Man High School and then enlisted in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1965. After proudly serving his country, he began his 45 year career in coal mining at Paragon Coal Company and then Amherst Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He became a superintendent at Island Creek Coal Company in the early 1980's. In the early 1990's Ronnie became the mine manager at Pen Coal then at Argus Energy where he retired in 2009. From early childhood Ronnie attended Accoville United Methodist Church. In his younger years, he was very active in Midget League football and a big supporter of the Man High Hillbillies. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and helping others. The greatest joy of his life were his children and grandchildren, finding pennies dropped by angels, feeding the ducks on the river bank, sitting on his front porch with the neighbors, and visiting the Cliffside with the "Liars Club". Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Linda Gibson of South Man; daughter, Rhonetta (Mike) Adams of South Man; son, Mark (Janice) Gibson of Mentor, OH; grandchildren, Jordan and Kaitlyn Adams of South Man, Brayden and Jaxtin Gibson of Mentor, OH, and Alex Maynard of Huntington; brother, Everett "Poochie" (Judy) Gibson of Greenvalley; sisters, Ellen "Lou" Ellis of Kistler and Sue (Gene) Rankin of OH; two uncles, Farris Burton, Sr. and Willard Burton, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Imes and Kay (Bob) Seakelly; many nephews and nieces along with a host of other relatives and friends. Over Ronnie's lifetime he had many friends some of whom are: Scott Mills, Steve Wilburn, Proc Cook, Jim Blevins, Raymond Jude, Harvey Arms, Tootie Carter, Donald Browning, Randall Stepp, Jake Stepp, Robert Lusk, Sherman Simmons, Junior Jeffrey, Randy Likens, Clarence Gibbons, Roger Short, Bob Johnson, Raymond Napier, Red McNeely, Larry Heatherman, Bill Jeffery, Carmel Perdue, Milroy Collins, Bill Cline, and Junie Dials. The Gibson family extends a special thanks to Dignity Hospice and staff for all of their care and kindness. A celebration of Ronnie's life will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Norman Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services also.
