Willow Hughes
Of Mallory, WV
Willow Carmel (Kayo) Hughes, 96, of Mallory, passed away on March 20, 2017, at Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan.
He was born on December 3, 1920, in Clay County, a son of the late Rufus and Edna Hughes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James Edward and Carmel Hughes.
Willow served in the Army during WWII as a paratrooper and was stationed throughout Europe. After the war, he worked in the coal mines as a heavy equipment operator and owned a trucking/construction company. Willow worked until he was in his late 70's operating a dozer. After retiring, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol Pierce of Cape Coral, FL and Pat Solomon (Kenny) of New Boston, MI; his sons, Curt (Karen) of Grove City, OH, Lowell (Judy) of Avon Park, FL, and Michael (Margo) of Globe, AZ; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jean Brown, Eva June Buckbee, Francis Justus, Karen Legg; and brother, Max Hughes.
Willow's remains have been cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
