Robert Denton “Pops” Woods
Of Davin, WV
Robert Denton “Pops” Woods, 79, of Davin, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, March 30, 2020, leaving from St. Francis Hospital, after a short illness.
He was born on January 3, 1941, at Mineral City, the son of the late Lawrence Albert, Sr. and Icy Mable (Grimmett) Woods.
Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1959 until 1963. He then returned to Logan County where he worked as an electrician in the coal mines for 39 years, retiring January 17, 2003 from Rockhouse Creek Development Company. Robert was a member of the UMWA Local 8217. He enjoyed camping, fishing, wood working, and mining for gems in the Smoky Mountains. Robert was a member of the Claypool United Methodist Church where he was a member of the United Methodist Men. He loved spending time with his family especially on road trip adventures.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years and one month, Beverly Lee (Lohr) Woods; one son, Robert D. (Robyn) Woods, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Katharine (Eugene) Ellis of Bruno and Donna (Timmy) Clark of Amherstdale; four grandchildren, Lora Jo (Philip) McPherson of Shiloh, NC, Brandon Ellis of Cayce, SC, April Woods of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kayla Clark of Amherstdale; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Roberts, Calli Mae Woods, Shelby Leigh McPherson, all of Shiloh, NC; his brother and best friend, Lawrence (Sharon) Woods, Jr. of Buffalo; brother, Earl Woods of Hinton; several nieces and nephews; his church family from Claypool United Methodist Church; three special close friends, Jack Morgan, Jimmy Williams, and Clarence Vance along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Rev. Tim Shuff officiating and where military honors will be conducted.
Due to the COVID-19 virus there will be a memorial service held at a later date.
