Adele “Sissy” Carter

Of  Accoville, WV

Adele “Sissy” Carter, 68, was born on December 11, 1950 from the union of Cecil and Ophelia Carter in Braeholm, West Virginia.  She was the last child of thirteen children to be born to her parents.  Adele was baptized as a youth at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Kistler, West Virginia.  Her family and friends referred to her as “Sissy”.  While fighting a courageous battle with cancer, she departed this life peacefully in her sleep at Dignity Hospice Center in Chapmanville, West Virginia, on July 18, 2019.  Adele was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost, a sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  She was a very outgoing and energetic person who never met a stranger.

Adele graduated from Man High School in Man, West Virginia.  After twenty years of service, she retired from Man Appalachian Regional Hospital’s Housekeeping, Kitchen, and X-ray Departments.  After retirement, she sharpened her decorating skills as a Home Interior Consultant and her passion to help others as a Home Care Provider.  Along with decorating, her hobbies included cooking, playing Bingo, casino games, going to movies, watching game shows, and working in her flower garden.  Above all, she treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Dorothy Howze, Viola Green, Blanche Carter, Shirley Rankin, Doretha Carter, and Wanda Helton and two brothers, Orlin and Roy Carter.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Deshawna Carter of Kistler, WV; one son, Bradley Clark of Accoville, WV; four brothers, William “Tootie” (Beverly) Carter of Amherstdale, WV, Horlin “Boonie” Carter of Greenboro, NC, Reginald “Bubbie” Carter of Kistler, WV, and Thurmond “Dit” (Harriett) Carter of Alexandria, VA; one sister-in-law, Jean Carter of Woodbridge, VA; three grandchildren, Jalynn, who lived with her, Jazmin and Little Bradley of Accoville, WV; three special friends, Tina Petzer, Drema Franklin, Dorothy Jones, and Nancy Goodman; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She had a very special cat companion, Reece, for fifteen years.  Adele left a huge mark on many lives and left behind a lot of wonderful memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

A Celebration of Adele’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the Man Church of God at Man, WV with Rev. Donald Lafferty officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
